Concerns About Cell Phone Radiation

Cell phone radiation poses a real concern for many of today’s high tech users. Radiation is a harmful and powerful force that has the potential to harm soft tissues in the body with long-term exposure. So what factors play into the dangers of cell phone radiation and is there a safe level.

Cell Phone Radiation, How Much is Too Much

Cell Phone Radiation, How Much is Too Much

Radiation is the real concern when we discuss the dangers of cell phones. Most people don’t think however that we are constantly, in our high tech world, bombarded by radiation on a daily bases. Things like TV’s, Computers, and Microwave Ovens all emit EMR (Electro Magnetic Radiation), which is the same type of radiation we are concerned with when discussing cell phone radiation and its dangers. In fact, if you work in an office, you are likely exposed to a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) that emits significantly more radiation than a cell phone.

This is all well and good, but the true question is; how much is too much? Well, radiation unlike cigarettes and nicotine has only been widely marketed to the consumer over the past twenty to thirty years. Consider that as I was completing high school in the late 1980’s, no one I knew of owned a cell phone. It wasn’t until the early 90’s that these devices became more accessible to the common consumer. Now a cell phone bombarding its owner with radiation can be seen on every street corner in every school and in every office building. It’s routine. And if you are like me and don’t own one, you are the oddity, find more about this.

The point I am trying to make here is that considering the relatively short term of cell phone usage, and the relative long latency period to developing cancers from low-level radiation exposure, it is too early for science to qualify or quantify the results of cell phone radiation on humans. In effect we are all lab rats in this experiment. You may reference the following NTP (National Toxicology Program) report for more details.

I’m Concerned about Cell Phone Radiation, What do I do?

The bottom line is that if you are concerned about cell phone radiation. You need to limit your use of cell phones. Another way to limit your exposure to cell phone radiation is to use hand free devices. This will effectively lower the level of direct radiation you receive to the cranium. Further, you may want to consider looking for a phone that offers low radiation output. Here is a 2021 guide to selecting a cell phone with low radiation output.

What ever your choice is concerning cell phone usage, remember that your intuition telling you what is safe and what is not is more important than studies performed by scientist. If you are fearful of cell phone radiation, its ok to decide not to use it.
